6 · Race day
The morning of the race: the pre-race checklist, switching the event on in Race Relay, and the live surfaces.
What it's for
Race day is step 5: a 15-point checklist for the morning, the switch that makes the event the live one in Race Relay, and the three live surfaces (the TV, the phones, the public web page) that the Timing Desk feeds.
Before you start
- Bibs assigned and the Run 1 start list released (chapter 5).
- The event group set up (chapter 2, step 11).
Steps
- Open Race day. It opens on Pre-race checklist: 15 items in four groups (Setup, Entries, Course & timing, Safety). Tick each one as it is done, or Tick all, then press Save. The rail row counts 15 / 15 and the page says "All green — ready to race". 🖨 Print PDF prints it; ⧉ Copy to other races carries the ticks to Day 2.
15 items; the Archive step checks this list later - Open Activate an event. Pick the event under Choose an event…, type the Name shown in the app (short, "Docs walk" in this tutorial) and press Activate. The page confirms: the event "is live — chats, documents and notes now belong to it, and it shows in the app". Stand down switches it off again.
From now on chats and documents belong to this event - Open Timing Desk (step 6). The top of the desk is the live card: the Live timing switch (NOT LIVE / LIVE) and three tiles — Live display, Phone live, Public live — each with Off / Live / Test under it.
- Set each surface. Live sends times to that surface; Off keeps it blank; Test shows a Test link ↗ — a private address with its own key that shows nowhere public. Open it on the TV or a phone to check the layout before the first racer.
Off, Live or Test per surface; Test gives a private link - Press Columns & filters under a tile to choose that surface's columns (Its own columns or Same columns as the printed results); the preview updates as you change them.
- When the first racer is ready, press the Live timing switch so it reads LIVE. The status line says which surfaces are showing the race; a tile's chip reads ON AIR.
- Clear chat (back on Race day) empties the event chat after confirming — use it only if a previous test left noise in the group.
What success looks like
The checklist reads 15 / 15, the Activate an event page says the event is live, Race Relay shows the event with a green LIVE pill on the race bar, and on the desk the surfaces you want read ON AIR.
If something goes wrong
- A tile says WAITING: it is set to Live but the Live timing switch is still NOT LIVE.
- The public page shows nothing: its tile is Off or Test. Set it to Live.
