7 · Timing Desk
Connect the device, open the race, take the impulses, handle a DNF and a missed time, and build Run 2.
What it's for
Timing Desk is step 6: the device sends the impulses, the desk puts them on bibs, works out the times and feeds the live surfaces. Nothing on it changes a time by itself.
Before you start
- A timing device connected (Timing devices).
- The Run 1 start list released, Live timing on (chapter 6).
Steps
- Under Timing devices press + Connect device. Pick the Make and the Connection (direct to this computer, through the timing box, or Bluetooth) and press Connect. The rail row changes from "No device connected" to the device with a dot. Sync all sets every box's clock.

first-event/07-timing-desk-01.pngMake, connection, Connect - Open Timing Desk. The header shows the run (‹ Run 1 / 2 ›) and Simple desk / Full desk. The Timing 1 window has Sync, the light, ↑ ↓, DNS DNF DSQ DQP and More ▾.
- Press the light. LOCKED (red) stores nothing against this race; one press makes it RACE OPEN (green) — impulses go to the next racer; another press keeps impulses only. It is per race and per run (The traffic light).
Start queue left, finish and times right, counters and ranking below - A start impulse moves the next bib from the Start queue to on course; the finish impulse lands in Finish with the time. Informations counts the statuses and Ranking updates.
- For a racer who does not finish, click their row and press DNF (the button names the bib); DNS and DSQ work the same way.
- For a missed finish, right-click the racer's start row, choose Modify data…, then Compute a missing time. Type the hand times beside the System A times (or Get hand times from the app, or Upload… a tape photo) and the missing racer's backup finish; the calculator shows the offset and the computed time. OK, then OK on Modify data; it is stored as a hand time.
Hand times against System A; the offset gives the missing time - A doubled bib is flagged !; a time outside the timing checks waits for Mark reviewed on Data Management. The desk never re-routes an impulse.
- After the last racer press › in the header so the desk reads Run 2 / 2, then open Manage Start Lists. With Run 2 selected press Options ▾ › Prepare from ranking of another run, pick Run 1, OK. The dialog follows the FIS default (best 30 reversed, "Bibo", then the rest in time order): Add, close, OK.
Run 2 from Run 1's ranking: Bibo 30, reversed - Back on the desk the Start queue lists the Run 2 order. Press the light to RACE OPEN again and time Run 2.
What success looks like
Every bib has a time or a status in both runs, Not processed reads 0, and Ranking lists everyone classified.
If something goes wrong
- Impulses arrive but nothing is stored: the light is LOCKED.
- Add is greyed in the Run 2 dialog ("Run 1's start list comes from the draw"): the desk is still on Run 1. Press › first.
- DNF is greyed: click the racer's row first.
