What it's for

The penalty is what turns a race's results into FIS race points. Race Bureau calculates it per race from the results and the FIS points list, and prints the sheet the TD signs:

  • Best 10 at finish — the top 10 with their list points, and the BEST 5 of them with their race points.
  • Best 5 at start — the five best list points in the field, finished or not.
  • TOTAL — (A) list points of the best 5 to finish in the top 10, (B) list points of the best 5 at start, (C) race points of the corresponding competitors; Calculated penalty (A + B − C) / 10, the Correction value (Z), the Category adder, and the Applied penalty after the minimum.

Under the sheet, Penalty parameters shows the values in use — F value, Maximum points, Category adder, Minimum penalty, Maximum penalty, Correction value (Z) — pre-set from the FIS points list's own first page. The sheet's footer names the list and the FIS points rules article it follows.

Before you start

  • The race picked under ACTIVE RACE, timed, with every status set.
  • The FIS points list valid for the race date in use (see General parameters).

Steps

  1. Open Results & publish › Penalty calculation.
Best 10 at finish, best 5 at start, the total and the parameters
    The penalty sheet
  2. Read the sheet. Check the five competitors counted in each block and the Applied penalty.
  3. Under Penalty parameters, compare each value with the list's first page. To hand-set one for this race, type over it; blank the field to go back to the list's value. ↺ auto returns a value to automatic.

What success looks like

The Applied penalty matches your hand calculation and the TD's, and the parameters read the number of the list that is valid for the race date.

If something goes wrong

  • Set ACTIVE RACE in the header above: the screen needs a race picked, and the race needs results.
  • A competitor is missing from Best 10 at finish: they have no list points on the list in use, or their status is DNF or DSQ.
  • TBC: the sheet's footer and the parameters box named two different FIS list numbers on the demo race — which one the calculation used.
  • TBC: the wording of FIS points rules art. 4.4 — the rules document is not among the regulations the app carries, so it is not quoted here.
