What it's for

Backups & USB export keeps a copy of the race outside Race Bureau: one file holding the race package, the timing desk of every run, and the desk changes and impulses still waiting to send. In Chrome on a computer the file is written into a folder you pick once (a Race Bureau folder inside Documents); anywhere else it is downloaded. Export to a USB stick writes the same file to a stick you choose.

Before you start

  • The race on this device (see Race on this device). Until then the page says Put the race on this device first.

Steps

  1. Open This device › Backups & USB export in the Timing app.
  2. Press Pick the folder and choose Documents. A Race Bureau folder is made inside it. While the race is kept on this device, a latest copy is written there after every update.
  3. Press Back up now for a copy this minute. Last backup shows the time; the message names where it went.
  4. For a stick: plug it in, press Export to a USB stick and pick the stick.

What success looks like

Folder names your folder, Last backup shows a time from today, and the stick holds one file with the race, its competitors (racing details only), every run's timing and anything still waiting to send.

If something goes wrong

  • Folder reads Downloads (this browser cannot write to a folder): this browser has no folder access (Safari, an iPad). The backup is saved to Downloads instead.
  • That folder could not be used — pick another.: pick a folder you can write to.
  • Not saved — something went wrong writing the file.: try again; check the stick is not full or read-only.
