Modify data and hand time

Modify data edits one bib's time, penalty, status, gate and reason; its calculator is the only way a hand time gets in.

What it's for

Modify data (right-click a racer's row, or press and hold it, and choose Modify…; on the simple layout it is the Modify… button under the row) is the one dialog for changing what the desk holds for a bib on this run: the Time, the Penalty, the Status with its Gate and Reason, and the read-only Inter and Speed rows. The calculator beside Time, Compute a missing time, is the only door for a hand time: there is no hand-time row on the bar and no other way in. A time that came through it is marked *HT.

Before you start

  • For a hand time: a backup time. Either a window declared System B with its own device, or the hand-timers' tapes — a photo posted in the event's Timing group on Race Relay, or a photo you upload.
  • The Hand time tolerance set in Settings.

Steps — Modify data

  1. Open Modify… on a racer's row. The box between ‹ and › holds the bib; type another bib and press Enter, or use the arrows, to move to that racer. Moving saves what you changed.
  2. Edit Time, Penalty, Status, Gate or Reason (for example missed gate 18).
  3. Press OK to save and close. Cancel drops unsaved edits.

Steps — a hand time

  1. In Modify data, press the calculator beside Time. Compute a missing time opens on top for this bib. (From the desk's missed-impulse notice, Open brings it up already open.)
  2. Check Missing bib and choose Missing time › Start or Finish.
  3. Choose Backup times › System B or Hand times. For hand times, press Get hand times to read the tape photos posted in the Timing group, or Upload… a photo of the tape; Read tape transcribes it and matches the lines to the racers by bib, else by nearest time within the tolerance.

    Compute a missing time
  4. The middle table lists the ten racers who actually started nearest before the missing one, with the desk's time (System A) beside the backup's and the Difference. Untick a wild row with ✕; the next one up pulls in. One average is shown.
  5. Press ← to take the calculated time, then OK. It lands in Time as a hand time; press OK on Modify data to save it.
  6. Press the PDF button to print the calculation for the TD paperwork.

How it is calculated

The rule is ICR art. 611.3.2.1: the ten competitors who started before the missing time, the gap between the backup time and the desk's time for each, one average offset, and the missing time = the backup's recorded time minus that average. System B goes through the same procedure; its time of day is never substituted directly. The correction is rounded to the precision of the desk's time of day. A cell nobody filled stays empty; there is never a stand-in time.

What success looks like

The racer's row shows the time with *HT, the missed-impulse notice is gone, and the Times list holds the calculated impulse with its correction.

If something goes wrong

  • The calculator is greyed: there is no backup for this run yet, or the race is timed with other software.
  • No hand time lines up with a racer: the tape is from another race, or the tolerance is too tight. Check the tape, or raise the tolerance in Settings.
  • System B looks like a different race than System A: point the System B window at this race.
  • OK is greyed with a message: you cannot write to this race (read-only access).
