Install Race Relay

Add Race Relay to your home screen on iPhone or Android. It is a web app: no app store.

What it's for

Race Relay runs in your phone's browser. Adding it to your home screen gives it an icon, opens it full screen and, on iPhone, is the only way notifications can reach you.

Before you start

  • Open Race Relay once from the club's link or QR code, so the browser has the page to install.

Steps

iPhone or iPad (Safari)

  1. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow ↑): at the bottom of the screen on iPhone, top right on iPad.

    Share, then Add to Home Screen
  2. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add. The RaceRelay icon appears on your home screen.

If the link opened inside another app (Instagram, Facebook, Gmail), that browser cannot install anything. Tap its ⋯ or Aa button and choose Open in Safari, then follow the steps above.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Tap the ⋮ menu, top right.
  2. Tap Install app (older versions say Add to Home screen).
  3. Confirm with Install. The icon appears with your other apps.

From inside the app

Chats shows an amber setup line, Setup 0 of 2 · add RaceRelay to your home screen, until the app is installed. Tap How for the steps for your phone. The same steps are always under Settings › This app › 📲 Install this app › How. Once installed the row reads ✅ Installed on this phone.

What success looks like

Race Relay opens from its own icon, full screen, with no browser bar. Settings › This app says ✅ Installed on this phone.

If something goes wrong

  • No Add to Home Screen on iPhone: you are not in Safari. Copy the link into Safari and try again.
  • Installed, but notifications still say add RaceRelay to your Home Screen first: open the app from the icon, not from a browser tab. The tab and the icon count as two different devices (see Devices).
